The IKUNA Blog

Merry Christmas

The holidays are a good time to reflect on the past year. The challenges and obstacles we've all faced up to this point help make those  good things that have happened that much better.

Merry Christmas from the IKUNA family to yours. We hope that you have a safe and enjoyable holidays with your family and friends.

Overcome. Achieve. IKUNA.

The Message

This past week has been a week of sadness and heartbreak. I feel for the families that lost precious loved ones during the tragic shooting in CT. We live in a crazy world. Just this morning I heard the sad news that a very good friend of mine passed away. We met for the first time in Provo, UT as we prepared for our two year missionary service in Sydney, Australia. He was a humble young man and very quick to welcome anyone he met along the way. A kind heart and a smile that you could not deny. He leaves...

The Brand

I can remember running around our home in Oakland, CA. A small green home in the 20s. Not the best neighborhood either. Neighborhood fights and mean streets kept us on our toes. My parents were immigrants to the U.S. arriving just a few short years before my older brother and I were born. It would be later in life that I would learn about the many years leading up to their arrival to the U.S. It would be the late 60s, early 70s. Suffice it to say, it is a remarkable story and one that embodies what IKUNA is all...

12Twelve12 - The Mark

There has to be some type of omen associated with 12/12/12. I know - I am hoping it brings good luck to Ikuna Apparel in the near future and for years to come.

It took me a very long time to finally decide on a logo to use for this line. You can ask my wife and kids how much time I spent trying to figure it out. You can even ask my brothers how many versions and revisions we have gone through. I am sure they are all happy that I finally settled on one. It's...

The Word

IKUNA (pronounced ee-koo-nah) a word found in the Tongan language; a small Polynesian island located in the South Pacific. It's meaning - VICTORY. The ability to overcome. Success over a struggle or obstacle regardless of the odds. I like to think of it as a state of mind; a force that is naturally found inside of us that wills us to win, to never give up, to overcome.

IKUNA - that's the word.

Overcome. Achieve. Victory. IKUNA
